Our work is inspired by.....
Our work is inspired by and named in honor of the courageous and dedicated service of Ssgt. Vincent J. Bell of the United States Marine Corp. Vincent served in the U.S. Marines for 10 1/2 years and was on his fifth tour of duty in Afghanistan (4 to Iraq) when he was killed in action on November 30, 2011.
Vincent dedicated his life in service to our country and he continues to inspire U.S. Marines deployed around the world and at home. Vincent was a very humble young man and he especially loved to mentor and nurture the children in his life. He was a Godfather and Uncle to dozens of children and his legacy will continue on through all who met him on his life journey. As a Marine, Vincent traveled all over the world. On his journey, he made stops in Russia, India, Singapore, Seychelles, Australia, Hawaii, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
According to the United Nations, there are approximately 60 million girls out of school worldwide. Girls that are not in school are disproportionately susceptible to extreme poverty, child marriage, early motherhood, sexually transmitted diseases and other health issues, as well as low self esteem and low self worth.
Education is an international human right outlined in several international treaties and conventions. It is every girl's human right to pursue her education. Education empowers women and girls around the world to lead a better quality of life for herself, her family and her community. Our work at The Bell Global Justice Institute is to advance and protect this most precious human right for every girl.
